Personifying a Condom.

I am known by many brand names, Durex, Kamasutra, Preethi et al. I am made of strong latex and normally I am white in color with transparency.I am sold mostly by pharmacists. To give a short history about my self, I have been used for over 400 years.I am one of the most popular methods of contraception in the entire world. Aint I lucky?. There is some knowledge that I was used in the ancient Greek times to prevent pregnancy, but this is not verified. In 16th century Italy, Gabriele Falloppio wrote a treatise on syphilis and this is where I was first mentioned as a practical method of contraception. Syphilis broke out in the 1940's and this resulted in many deaths. This was the first uncontested description of the usage of condoms"that is my ancestors" in the prevention of infection. Linen sheaths were soaked in a chemical and left to dry. This is how I was first made. I was also made out of the the intestines and the bladder during the renaissance times. In the 15th century the Dutch traders introduced my ancestors made out of fine leather which will cover the entire penis to Japan. I was introduced to the poorer classes in the 19th century for the first time. The usage of condoms were promoted through traveling lecturers, advertisements and so on. There was some opposition from the Roman Catholic Church because it would promote sexual promiscuity because of the belief in safe sex.

Sigmund Freud, the great psychoanalyst, opposed the usage of things like me, because it would result in high rates of failure and cut down sexual pleasure.

Anyways thats enough about my history. Now, let me tell you the advantages of the correct usage of my services. Sexually transmitted diseases like HIV aids and Syphilis have become common phenomena in the modern world. I could be used to prevent such diseases from spreading, but to do this proper education is essential. Many countries in the world still do not fully practice sex education in schools. The reason being, uh well....many things. In 2000, a report by the National Institutes of Health mentioned that the spread of STD's have been curtailed to rates up to 85% due to the use of condoms like me. Do not depend on me all the time though, infections present in the genital areas which the I do not cover could still get transmitted on contact.

There are also failures which I can and can't account for. I may slip off the penis after ejaculation or tear due to improper handling. Someone might have a sudden desire while on the road and I might not be available, or some people might just not like the feel of me. One may sabotage me, in order to have a child without the "informed consent" of his or her partner. There are things like me for females also mind you.

Now I will tell you about the other uses of things like me. Did you know that the Navy Seals have used doubled condoms sealed with neoprene cement to protect non-electric firing assemblies for underwater demolitions. I could be used to hold water in emergency survival situations. Junkies use me to smuggle heroin and cocaine by filling condoms with the drugs and either swallowing them or inserting them into the rectum. These methods could be extremely dangerous because if the condom tears the junkie could experience drug overdose.

I think I should be made available to everyone, not considering their social or economical status. There should be vending machines in all public places, like airports and railway stations ,so that even the poor have access to me. Students and working professionals should be educated about my services and the correct usage of "me".My friends and I should be distributed amongst college students as a precautionary measure. I have proved useful in combating Aids which is a major problem in India. The masses should be educated and sensitized about me. Pharmacists should be educated enough to not smirk at a potential customer, just because he or she asks for something like me. Parents should educate their children about me and not feel "icky" about it.I should be publicized amongst the rural communities. Medical practitioners should encourage usage. These are all my ideas and its all in the form of what one should do. It is up to you to implement my ideas for a better tomorrow without HIV and unwanted pregnancy.
