Cracking Collegian Code

I have been thinking so much about rebelling against the 'system' that exists in our surroundings,be it at university or just in a government office. I am a great fan of the hippies and the beats of the 60's and beyond because they had their own methods of being rebellious. It is maddening sometimes that, eventhough you see so many things you would like changed,it never can be changed fully unless you are in a position of power and that being on the top of a certain hierachy.

The system dictates everything that happens in an institution. Teachers have no say, students certainly have no say and sometimes people in high administrative positions, they also have no say.Liberation is the hot topic of the season, but how liberating is it that you cannot put forward your greivances without the fear of being expelled from the institution?. The media has a field day when they have to interview students on their various difficulties, but then again how much further do they take it?.The 1st estate like in the days of the French Revolution will not be bothered. They have their luxury, comforts and stature.A hierachy in a real sense exists to be accessible to anyone who requires their help and support.A vice chancellor exists,a pro vice chancellor exists or there is a character known as the dean.We students go into their abodes with much expectation, but there are several barriers you have to cross, people you have to cajole, fake smiles you have to put on when your insides are boiling with raje and hurt. They do stress on holistic development and there is a certain Mission statement that reads " ' The' University is a nurturing ground for an individual's holistic development to make effective contribution to the society in a dynamic environment".We are as students made to memorize this.

Lets break the mission statement into tiny tit bits.It is a nurturing ground. It does nurture you with the many opportunities it gives you and I appreciate that. The nurturing also is supposed to happen on another level altogether. We do not have a proper medium to put forward our various ideas, thoughts and questions to the hierachy. They teach us to be innovative and to be individuals with a scientific temper. The only person we could atleast think of going to is the councellor, because at least we are confident of the fact that they will talk to us in a polite manner. The entire system just stinks of red tape, of bureaucracy.

The next bit in the mission statement "for an individuals holistic development". Holistic development does take place with the value based sessions they have for us in holistic education classes. The 1st estate does not see students unless ofcourse they have committed a certain misdemeanour, then they are the happiest to meet the students. This particular attitude changes when a student approaches the higher up's with a genuine problem. Now,we have to cross dangerous bridges with frothy white water gushing down below.

Next concept, "to make effective contribution to the society". True, the University does have social responsibility as a core value and I am positive that they follow it to the core. People are given new leases of life and entire communities are developled. Applaudable. There are many more aspects to social responsibility that individuals don't pay much attention to, eventhough it is very much needed. This is somewhat a follow up to my previous article titled "Observations". Close circuit cameras are quick to be installed to curb crime and ragging, again highly commendable. But,basic amneties like a stretcher,or for instance a medic on campus, well, the core value of social responsibility sadly does not seem to apply here. This breeds a lack of awareness and most importantly a lack of care.Students approach the world outside the university gates and the same lack of interest, and the affectedness, it spreads amongst the masses and then we have a society that stinks of apathy which  seems to have become a totem in the present world.

The last idea" in a dynamic environment". This sure does take the cake.

I think I've cracked the code to the totalitarian tendencies of the systems in the above mentioned University. It might be quite trivial when compared to the frustatrations and thoughts that follow it.

It might in fact be quite regional and even communal in nature. Will discuss more in person.
